Gear Review: Fret Board Lemon Oil

GEAR REVIEW: Fretboard Lemon Oil

When you keep playing guitar for a very long time you would notice dust accumulation near frets and sometimes you would feel your fretboard turned dry and shabby. This all depends how much you have used your guitar. This can also affect your playability especially when applying articulation such as bends, vibrato etc. This could also lead to serious issues like drying, cracks and could create irreparable damage to your instruments.

To over come this problem you need to clean your fret board with good quality lemon oil made for guitar fretboard cleaning only. Don’t use any other lemon oil because they may contain other minerals such as silicon and wax, which do vary for different types of lemon oil. You might astonish to hear that the lemon oil for fretboard cleaning seems a costly affair but if you are using a quality instrument then such kind of maintenance would add life to your guitar. So don’t hesitate and compromise with the health of your beloved instrument.

To begin with cleaning your fretboard, please follow the following steps:

· Loosen the strings little bit and start taking off your strings with the help of a wire cutter at the twelfth fret.

· Using a plastic credit card along or toothpick scrape the dust from the frets where they meet the fretboard. These are the best tools, as they would not damage your fretboard wood.

· Be very slow and cautious doing so.

· To apply the lemon oil dip a fine cotton cloth with the lemon oil and rub the fretboard very gently.

· Restring your guitar to the desired quality strings. Remove the partially cut strings very carefully as they can harm the finish of your guitar.

· Tune your guitar using an electronic tuner and you are on your way again.

Educating yourself on caring for your instrument is just as vital as learning how the instrument plays. With just a few simple steps and procedures you will largely improve both your instruments sound and ensuring a long life for your guitar.
